CloseDavid And Goliath. This is one of a handful of all-time favorite Bible stories of kids. It’s also embedded in our culture as the classic tale of when the underdog overcomes the bully. It serves as inspiration and encouragement. But it reaches far greater depth than this because it is a call to trust in God when the giants of despair and defeat tower over us. Let’s go one level deeper yet and we see Jesus peeking through this event. He is One who represents all, and goes into battle in our stead and wins the battle we never could on our own, even with our greatest worldly weaponry. David is not only the ancestor of Jesus in the flesh, but is the “type” that is completely fulfilled in the person and mission of Jesus our Savior.
Scripture References: 1 Samuel 17:31-40
