CloseLight and darkness are opposing forces. Light always causes darkness to retreat and scatter. Yet in the absence of light, darkness rules. In the spiritual world it is the same. The Temptation of Jesus when the Prince of Darkness [Satan] confronts the Sovereign of Light [Jesus] is the supreme example of this. The Light is more powerful than the formidable foe of Darkness. So, darkness must retreat from the compelling light force of Jesus who is holy and incorruptible, and all-powerful. The effects and benefits of this victory of Jesus accrue to the believer, and in Him we also can be victorious, no matter how vicious the offensive of the satanic foe.
