CloseBe tolerant. This is what we are taught by the kindlier elements of our culture. The Bible even tells us that “Charity covers a multitude of sins.” At the same time, we are commanded not to tolerate evil, but to call it out. At the time of the prophet Elijah, in the 800’s BC there was a wicked queen in Israel, named Jezebel. Toleration of idolatry was all over the place in violation of God’s very first commandment. Elijah hid out and even fled for his own life. Today we face similar ideologies and practices that amount to idolatry. Anything taking the place of God is an idol. Jesus, in addressing the church of Thyatira, connects depraved sexual immorality with the Jezebel mindset and lifestyle.
