The Power to Tell

The first Christians were dispirited and discouraged. At first everything was going so well. They were so excited about the resurrection of Jesus and the Holy Spirit came mightily upon them. New believers were added every day to the church and miracles were happening at the hands of the apostles. But Peter and John suddenly landed in prison for preaching the resurrection of Jesus. When they were released, they were forbidden to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. Should they just shut up or should they go on telling about Jesus? They did the right thing. Before they did anything else they went to the Lord in prayer. They knew that on their own they could not solve the issue. When they prayed, the Holy Spirit came with power, and in that power they “continued to speak the Word of God with boldness.” This is the power to tell others about Jesus. It worked for them then, and it works for us now.
